If you need someone to listen, we've got an open chair.
Our story began a few years ago when members of our team participated in a mental health Q&A panel for a local church youth group. After sharing information about the prevalence of teen anxiety and encouraging students to seek support when needed, one concern became clear: many young people and families in the area had very limited access to mental health services close to home.
At the time, many counseling resources were concentrated in larger cities, leaving communities throughout South Kent and Barry County underserved. Recognizing this need, a vision began to take shape—one centered on bringing high-quality, compassionate mental health care directly to the communities that needed it most.
After months of planning, seeking guidance, and taking a leap of faith, our practice opened its doors in Middleville, Michigan, operating out of space at Journey Church Middleville. From the beginning, the goal has been simple: to become a trusted part of the community where people can be their authentic selves, find hope and healing, and gain practical tools to build more meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Over the years, that vision has continued to grow. The practice expanded north into Caledonia and welcomed several talented therapists to the team, allowing us to serve even more individuals, couples, and families throughout the region. While ownership and leadership may evolve, our mission remains unchanged: to serve our community with excellence and help people create healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Open Chair Counseling exists to provide quality, trauma-informed, compassionate, and individualized mental health care. We are dedicated to using our skills and passions to support others as they step into healthier, happier lives.
