If you need someone to listen, we've got an open chair.
We all have a story to share, even if it isn’t perfect. Open Chair Counseling seeks to be a safe place where people can take a break from the burden of trying to keep it all together.
Life is messy and difficult and we weren’t meant to do it alone. Many of us are yearning for authenticity and the opportunity to bare our souls to one another, but the fear of judgment or rejection stops us in our tracks. You never need to be afraid that your emotions are “too much” here. If you need someone to listen, we’ve got an open chair.
It all stated when Adam and Bridget were asked to participate in a mental health Q&A panel a few years ago for their church’s youth group. After giving a short presentation on the prevalence of teen anxiety, Bridget and Adam reiterated to their middle and high school students how important it was to find support if they were struggling, but Bridget felt sick to her stomach after hearing from her students that there were few options near where they lived.
At the time, Adam and Bridget were living and working in Grand Rapids, and their hearts broke for South Kent and Barry county. So—after several months of thinking, asking for advice, planning, and taking a huge leap of faith—they decided to plant themselves in Middleville, Michigan, using space in Journey Church Middleville. Their dream is to become a landmark in the community where people know they can be their authentic selves, receive hope, healing, and practical tools to live a more fulfilling life. Since starting that journey, Adam and Bridget have expanded, bringing their practice a few miles north to Caledonia, and adding several amazing therapists to their team!
